My missing post (via @LuvBONESnTBlood)

I tried all day yesterday to post and finally I just was able to post yesterday’s and then to see my Saturday post never made it through…I am no longer posting late at night! Here was Sat’s post and I will post today’s later. Sometimes it can be so frustrating!

I’m waiting to see if Roman finds himself attracted to Sookie. It seems all men that meet her do. Or will he be too busy dealing with Eric and Bill to care?

Sookie: I feel better protecting myself, now that I know I am basically vampire crack!

Issue 4 of the ongoing comics is available to pre-order at HBOAlan Ball’s hit HBO series continues its ongoing comic tale. Learn what happened to your favorite characters on the night vampires revealed their existence to the world, with this issue focusing on ALCIDE! Co-Written by Michael McMillian, “Steve Newlin” from the show, with fan-favorite Ann Nocenti (Daredevil, Green Arrow)! Series features covers by Tim Bradstreet (The Punisher)!
Canada’s Fashion Magazine has the Anna Paquin article up, here’s a tidbit.
You can learn a lot about an actress by the way she steps on set for a photo shoot. Some stars require the armour of an entourage; others need a personality-devoid space and monastic silence. Anna Paquin is unquestionably neither of the above. Upon arriving at L.A.’s Smashbox Studios on a scalding Saturday afternoon, the Winnipeg-born, New Zealand-raised actress introduces herself to the FASHION crew without hesitation. Serving up a warm, Kiwi-accented “Nice to meet you” to photographer James White—and his troop of all-guy assistants crushing on her—the 29-year-old talent does the rounds as if she were hosting a cocktail party.
“At the end of last season, Sookie told all those dudes to back off because she needed to be by herself,” Paquin says. “She’s trying very hard to stay true to that goal of independence, of not being his or his or his…and she’s trying to figure out her own life on her own terms without anyone there to catch her every time she falls. Things will be especially complicated with her and Alcide, since Sookie just shot the head off the former love of his life!”
Apart from the gunslinging and the ultra-steamy love triangles, Paquin says she does make parallels between her own life and Sookie’s so that her performances remain fresh. “There have always been aspects of her that I connect to, empathize with and understand—that’s the only way I can approach my job,” she says. “You have to find a common ground with any character. I spend a lot of time with scripts, looking for my truth.”
Another way Paquin conjures up her True Blood protagonist is by exploring HBO’s vast wardrobe department. “For me, costume is a great key to the character,” Paquin says. “What you wear is a pretty big reflection of your personality. Part of True Blood is told through Sookie’s clothes.”

Battleship is no True Blood: minor spoilers (via @mswriteok)

Hi ya’ll.
I was a movie critic for 15 years, and one of the best perks of all time is seeing movies for free, so today I availed myself of that and went to an 11:35 a.m. showing of “Battleship.”
What follows is a tiny bit of a review, but mostly just the thoughts that ran through my brain as the the story unfolded.
The movie opens with a story of how Earth finds a planet in another galaxy that is a whole lot like Earth. So of course, we build a satellite to send a message to them. Well, they answer and it’s not a friendly visit.
The one thing I thought would happen did. I won’t spoil it, but if you’ve watched the trailers, I’m betting you can figure it out without much arm twisting.
Of course, my absolute favorite part of the movie was seeing Alexander Skarsgard starring as Stone Hopper. It’s even a great soldier name.
He stars as a Navy commander who makes his brother Alex (the equally dishy Taylor Kitsch) join the Navy to keep him out of trouble.
Some time later, they are stationed on separate destroyers in Hawaii.
It’s time for war games with several allied countries and the movie really gets going when Alex and a Japanese naval officer get into a fight and the admiral (Liam Neesom) tells Stone his brother will be thrown out of the Navy as soon as the exercises are over. Stone travels to his brother’s ship to tell him in person.
Luckily for Alex, it’s about this time that radars worldwide light up with a group of objects heading right our our home sweet home. Yup, it’s ET come to visit, and they do not want to sit with you and me and watch “True Blood.” No, they are coming to look over their newest vacation property, planet Earth.
One ship crashes in the atmosphere, taking out a big hunk of Hong Kong and several other countries. The rest land in the Pacific Ocean right near Hawaii. When Alex and two other sailors take a small boat out to investigate the big metal thing sticking up out of the water, a simple touch causes it to light up and put a protective dome over a Japanese destroyer and two American ones — the ones with Stone and Alex on them, as well as the Hawaiian Island chain.
All communications inside the dome are cut off from the rest of the planet, so the rest of the ships in the war games only know there are three ships in the dome with Lord knows what from outer space.
Glorious.
The aliens turn out to have taken the reptilian path of evolution, unlike the mammals on Earth. The humans are outgunned and have a steep learning curve before they find a plan that works to fight the aliens.
Skarsgard, while showing no fangy goodness, did a good job of playing a serious, by-the-book soldier who loves his brother and will do almost anything to keep Alex out of trouble and most importantly out of jail.
Alex is in love with the admiral’s daughter Sam (Brooklyn Decker). They want to marry but she insists that Alex must ask her father for her hand in marriage. Stone thinks it’s funny and hopes the relationship will help his brother group up.
Skarsgard and Kitsch have great chemistry in their scenes together.
It’s interesting to see our Sheriff Eric in a more buttoned-down role, and best of all, we get to see him in the sunlight. A whole lot. In one scene, he’s wearing soccer gear and man, he has great legs.
Alex looks great both in dress whites and in the blue camouflage uniform, and if he ever needs a costume to wear on the “True Blood” set, say for Halloween, New Years Eve, Arbor Day, whatever, I think the Navy whites would be splendid.
If you want to know more about the movie, well, either go see it or ask me and I’ll tell you what you want to know. Otherwise, I’m not giving anything else away.

True Blood 30-Night Fangathon:Night 9#2012Fangathon
Music of the Blood
I love music. I’m not, however, musical. I play some very old instruments which can hardly be found in the modern world, but nothing you would probably recognize. I can’t really sing either. As Sookie says “I can’t sing but boy, I love to dance and I’m pretty good at it”. Which probably explains why I’ve decided to take a look, and a listen, to the music ofTrue Blood.
The modern trend to use music as an integral and integrated part of a television series is one I actually like. As long as the music fits the mood and setting of the show. Initially, at least, the music ofTrue Bloodwas among the best Ive ever heard for a show. From nostalgic jazz and blues bred in the bayou to honky-tonkin’ country rock to romantic and wry storytelling the music from the first season set a tone and established a mood that drew viewers in.
I can’t say I loved every cut on the album. I’ll take it a step further and admit I can’t actually remember which episodes and scenes some of them were used in. What I can say is that all of them, leave you with the sultry Southern feelin’ that clings to your skin and gets into your head…kind of like True Blood.

Analyzing True Blood (via @TrueBloodMame)

In Alchemy the classic sequence of phases are: nigredo (black), albedo (white) and rubedo (red). Black represents the nigredo or blackness — the initial chaos or undifferentiated state — which turns into white, or albedo, representing a rebirth or sense of renewal; yellow announces a transitional stage from the white, and the red, the rubedo, represents the final result of transformation.
Psychologically, nigredo is a process of directing oneself to find self-knowledge. A problem is given full attention and reduced to its core. This is not done so much in an intellectual way, but especially by feeling the emotions. By really going into to it, one causes putrefaction, the decomposition of that in which one had been stuck. The confrontation with the inner reality is often painful, and can lead to depression. But once in the depth of the darkness, with the discovery of the seed of the problem, the seed in the ‘prima materia’, the white light is born (=albedo, whiteness, the next phase). A state of rest arises. Insight into the problem has been gained, it has been worked out emotionally, and knowledge arises on how to handle it in a more positive way and to build a more pure attitude.

The second stage of the Great Work is albedo, or whiteness. Albedo is the discovery of the hermaphroditic nature of man. In the spiritual sense each man is a hermaphrodite. When man descended into the physical world his body entered a world of duality. On the bodily level this is expressed by the sexes. But his spirit is still androgen, it contains duality in unity. Its unity is not bound to space, time or matter. Duality is an expression of unity in our physical world. It is temporal and will eventually cease to exist. When male and female are united again, one will experience his true self. Conscious and unconscious are totally united.

Albedo happens when the Sun rises at midnight. It is a symbolic expression for the rising of the light at the depth of darkness. This is the phase of the trials, which ends with a yet purer conjunction.

Rubedo is the continuation of albedo. That is why they are often seen connected to each other, like the White Queen and the Red King. Once the inner light has been discovered it must be made into the only reality in our consciousness. After having descended into the unconscious, into the darkness, into the underworld, we found the Light, we found the volatile Spirit. Now the volatile Spirit, or quicksilver, has to be fixated or coagulated. This means that our conscious, or attention, must completely penetrate our unconscious, or soul, or everything that lies hidden in ourselves. By doing this we fixate (that is bring it into the conscious) the volatile and make it durable. When everything in ourselves has been purified and the Light appears, we have to fixate this Light and make it durable so it remains always present.

In the eastern philosophies rubedo corresponds with the formation of the ‘diamond body’, a term fitting for the pure and permanent Stone of the Philosophers. When rubedo has been realized the alchemist has accepted his spiritual inheritance. He has become what he always has been, but never knew he was. He has realized his divine essence while still in his physical body. It is the same as what the gnostics called pneuma, the divine spirit in each man that is concealed in the deep darkness of the world, but can be made conscious again. When rubedo has been manifested man is master over both the physical as the spiritual world. He has become a King master over himself.

Book vs. Series, part 2 (via @TrueBloodMame)

 • There are no incidents at the funeral. Someone mentions uncle Barlett after the funeral, but he is not attending it.
 • Sookie takes time off from work to clean out grandma’s things and decides to move into her room, which she does.
 • Bill comes and they have sex on grandma’s bed. He seduces her, not like in the series where she runs to him.
 • Sookie wears a golf-shirt not to show the fang marks but they are revealed by Sam. That night Malcolm and Diane visit Merlotte’s and leave after a brawl. Sookie and Bill leaves together and she tells him that she has missed his silence.
 • Sookie and Bill bath together at his house and the next night in bed, Sookie tells Bill about uncle Bartlett. He asks her to stay the night. The next morning, Jason is in his truck, waiting for her outside Bill’s and he tells Sookie that uncle Bartlett has been killed by a burglar. Sookie realize that Bill has had him killed and asks Bill for a timeout. He says that he loves her and only wants to protect her.
 • Sookie inherits money from uncle Bartlett and she leaves them to a charity for children who were victims of molestation and rape.
 • Jason does not steal from Sookie, nor does he visit Fangtasia.
 • Bill doesn’t show Sookie where he rests during the day, even if she has got an idea about it anyway.
 • After a week of timeout, Bill comes to the bar with another vamp, a young man, and they are going to visit the Monroe-vampires nest. Sookie tells them to watch out, but they go anyway.
 • Jason calls about the fire the next morning. When she comes to the site, Sam comes and he takes her home and tell her to clean and helps her to keep busy until dark comes. She meets Bill in the graveyard and he is furious. She averts him by having angry sex with him on the grave where he came from.
 • Every third night, Sookie needs to recuperate or she will become anemic.
 • Jason’s “bed had as many occupants as a public toilet.” He asks Sookie to help him find the murderer. He also reveals taping having sex with the murdered girls.
 • Eric demands Bill to bring Sookie to Fangtasia and when Bill tells Sookie about this he asks her to drink his blood – which she does – so she’ll be better at reading minds. Bill then drinks from someone else before he picks Sookie up the following night. Sooke notice that she looks different.
 • At Fangtasia Sookie is able to read Eric’s thoughts, something she has never been able to do with vampires before, and she finds the thief, Long shadow, who attacks her and bites her. THEN ERIC STAKES HIM, not Bill. Eric says “You smell different, Sookie” and is really interested in her, but she and Bill are able to leave before he tries anything on.
 • “I was definitely off vampires for a while. Even Bill.”

Baby Vamp Grows Some Fangs (via @DarlingSookie)

Out of all the female characters on True Blood, Jessica Hamby aka Baby Vamp, has had the most growth and development. Of course, this isn’t really that big of surprise. She is after all, a creation of Alan Ball’s imagination. She’s his baby and he doesn’t have to deal with expectations of using someone else’s character.

The young naive, Jessica Hamby was kidnapped by vampires after she snuck out one evening to attend a party that her overbearing parents forbade her from attending. It is by luck that she was chosen to become Bill Compton’s ‘punishment’ after he staked Long Shadow in order to save his human girlfriend, Sookie Stackhouse.

Little did the Magister know exactly how well he was punishing Bill. For as much as he despised the thought of having a Childe of his own, possessing Jessica as one was far worse. Or at least initially.

As a freshly-turned vampire, Jessica was willful, whiny, and the prime example of why one should not turn a teenager into a vampire. Her behavior in the beginning was so annoying that even Eric and Pam could not be bothered to deal with her.

But then she met Hoyt Fortenberry..

Hoyt was a good balance for Jessica. His presence in her undeath and represented a means of her growing up as well as having a sense of normalcy within her circumstances.

As a couple, Hoyt and Jessica were an adorable couple. Together they got to explore the ups and downs of first love. Of course, things weren’t entirely simple.

Hoyt’s mother, Maxine, a judgmental and extremely opinionated woman, despised the pairing. Her desire save her son from the “she-devil”, drove her to go as far as asking a local girl, Summer to betray her vow to wait until marriage, in an attempt to “seduce” Hoyt. Of course, Hoyt wasn’t charmed by Summer’s ‘biscuits’ and despite the troubles that arose between them, Hoyt and Jessica wound up living together for a year.

But, with most first loves.. things changed and when Season 4 aired, the couple were walking a tight rope of resentment, obligation and anger. As the pair grew throughout the series, they grew apart and Jessica found herself feeling tied down by the relationship.

When she would once whine and cry, she showed maturity by confiding in Bill about her feeding from a fangbanger behind Hoyt’s back. This scene clearly showed the pair had grown closer during the year time jump. It was a refreshing development to see Bill and Jessica slip so easily into the roles of Maker/Childe.

As she is now single, it’s nice to see the maturity within her as she chooses to remain so and experience the life of an unattached vampire. Which is probably the wisest decision she could have made. I love my brother, but his track record speaks for himself.

Jessica was a wonderful addition to the cast and certainly allows the viewers to gain insight to the trials and tribulations of a new vampire. We get to experience several of her firsts, her first love, first time having sex, first kill, and we get to see her becoming the vampire she was always meant to be.

What will become of everyone’s favorite baby vamp?

Only time will tell, though the latest promo gives us some insight. I, for one, cannot wait to see her fight with Steve Newlin.

Baby vamp for the win? Let’s hope so!

Quopic of the Day – May 19th (via @EricSookieLover)

For my next fangalicious Fang-A-Thon 2012 post…we’re going to switch back to the books!

Do you remember reading a part in “Deadlocked”, where Sookie said something which sounded eerily familiar? I definitely had the case of deja vu while reading it. Let’s see if you remember it too.

This is what Sookie said when Eric and she were discussing Eric’s situation with Freyda.

“Then we’ll leave,” I said quietly. “We’ll go somewhere else. You’ll work for some other king or queen. I’ll find a job.”

You’re probably wondering why this sounds vaguely familiar? Think back to “Dead To The World”…Eric and Sookie were trying to figure out a way to be together and to not fight in the Witch War. Eric said this passage below;

“We could go back,” he said. In the dome light of the car, his face looked hard as stone. “We could go back to your house. I can stay with you always. We can know each other’s bodies in every way, night after night. I could love you.” His nostrils flared, and he looked suddenly proud. “I could work. You would not be poor. I would help you.”

Do these sound eerily familiar? I found it interesting that it was Eric who said something like this first, then later on in the series, it’s Sookie. It’s like a role-reversal in a way. It’s almost as if they’ve come full circle. Both of them are suggesting something that may or not be practical, and they are wanting to run away from their troubles so that they only have to deal with themselves and their relationship. It certainly sounds like both of them want their lives to be simpler than they really are.

I hope that by the end of the series, Eric and Sookie can somehow work out a plan where they both get want they want and each other.

What are your thoughts? Share them below!

Day 9: Public Service Announcement (via @Eric_NorthmanTB)

Because my progeny, Pam (@TB_PamR) does not film well, I did a Public Service Announcement for the American Vampire League.

Remember….vampires were once human too.

Least Favourite Character (via @SassyJessOB)

Now I’m pretty sure I can sit here and write a long essay and 100 points why I don’t like Russell Edgington, but I’m not going to do that. I simply am going to say that hes my least favourite character on the show but not in the southern vampire mysteries, he is a much better behaved vampire in the books.

So for the Fangathon 2012 my least favourite character is Russell.

Top Ten Differences Between Vampires and Fae (via @VampKingBill)

It has been brought to my attention that Mab has been trying to convince others that her kind are superior to mine. I think it only fitting that we take a closer look at her arguments and see if they hold water.

1. Weakness to sunlight

I will admit that the Sun is indeed our Achilles heel, but it hardly an insurmountable problem. Like other nocturnal creatures we have learned to adapt. And as far as weaknesses go, Sunlight is infinitely more preferable than a weakness to iron, a material so prevalent that it is almost impossible to avoid contact with. How limiting must it be that you cannot interact with your environment naturally for fear that it will kill you? We vampires on the other hand have plenty of time to accomplish our business an thanks to certain adaptations such as our enhanced vision, we can do so without being hindered.

2. Weakness to silver, and more specifically the lack of ability to accessorize with it.

I must admit that I am confused as to why this could possibly be construed as a problem. I can still wear white gold, I can still wear platinum or even titanium. The effect may not be exact, but it is hardly a drawback to the life style. Also, silver has the bonus of being an expensive metal, making humans truly invest if they wish to stockpile eventually weakening them when they can no longer afford to do so. Louis the XIV demonstrated this principle the best: life at the Palace of Versailles was so extravagant that his enemies spent all their funds on clothing and frivolities, money they could no longer spend on their armies. Pretty clever, huh?

3. Weakness to garlic.

I’m not even sure where this little fable began. It is not fatal to us, it is merely an inconvenience.

4. Blood consumption.

Vampires are predators and human blood is our food. Although it may not be palatable to all, we find it quite tasty. Plus, everyone knows that predators all consume blood on some level – animal and otherwise. It is part of the life cycle. Nothing wrong or unnatural about that is there?

5. Sleeping in coffins/Going to ground.

Last time I checked I slept in a perfectly comfortable bed. Advances in technology have meant that we are not so limited in our options for where we go to seek shelter from a day. I also find this notion to be rather insulting to the billions of humans out there who don’t sleep in beds. There are plenty who cannot afford or do not have the space or whose traditions do not allow for sleeping in beds. Ultimately, if you think about it, western mattresses are an indulgence, a luxury. Choosing to sleep in one doesn’t make anyone superior to anyone else and to try and argue that it does is nonsense.

6. Fae can eat food.

Except lemons. Heard that can do some pretty nasty things to a fae. And again, blood is our food of choice and there is much greater variation in flavor than non-vampires could ever appreciate. That we cannot eat food doesn’t make us inferior, it makes us different, and different is not a bad thing.

7. Answering to a Maker.

Father. Brother. Son. Although I cannot claim to have known Godric well, I cannot think of a better way to summarize the relaitonship between Maker and Childe. Just a human – or fae – infant needs guidance to learn to navigate their world, so too does a newly turned vampire need help to survive the first year, the first decade, even the first century of their new life. There is a beauty in the bond that Maker and Childe share that has to be experienced to be appreciated. For the lucky few the bonds are strong enough to last a millennium or more. I admit the relationship between Lorena and myself was not perfect, and yet it has helped shaped me in ways too numerous to count and ultimately I remain very thankful for it.

8. “Magical Powers”

Yes we can fly, we can glamour, we can heal and run with incredible speed and have superhuman strength. No, we don’t have microwave fingers. At best, I believe our powers are more versatile. At worse, it’s merely a draw. Again, the ability or lack there of isn’t necessarily a weakness. Just something that makes us different.

9. Telepathy.

I am certain that Sookie would be first in line to argue that being a telepath is overrated. Besides, why does anyone need to know the thoughts and feelings of those around them all day, every day? A part of life is learning to navigate the world based on what information you have. Also, having a telepathic conversation while eating is still bad manners. And no, perhaps we cannot glamour fae. But we can still drain you. The advantage, if there is one, remains ours.

10. “Poofing”

I do not even know what to make of this argument. Limits in transportation is hardly a weakness, but if the writer insists that it is then I shall counter it with this: we can present our true face to the world. We do not have to hide in illusion so that humans won’t be repulsed from us. I’ll take a human face over a slightly faster means of transport any day.

As you can see most of her “reasons” are things that are not weaknesses, just differences. We live in a time of so much division and hatred. Instead of finger pointing and mocking that which makes us different, we should be embracing that what makes us unique. And I hope that some day, Queen Mab, and anyone else who thinks they are superior to anyone be it another race or another species, does so as well.

Greek Revival (via @JB DuRone)

I like Jason. Ever since Season 1. He’s a chick magnet, a pretty but dumb boy (an awful lot like JB DuRone from the books) and a very awkward hero.

I remember the moment I started cheering for Jason; it was when he pegged Steve Newlin between the eyes with a paintball, signaling an end to the FOS standoff in Dallas. I stood up from my chair and yelled “Yes!” when he did that. I almost missed his double tap with the comment, “I reckon I’ve already been to heaven, and it was inside your wife.”

The next time I literally cheered for Jason was when he stood atop the pickup outside of Merlottes and proclaimed himself “The God Who Comes”. The whole scenario of Jason and Andy on a mission to save BonTemps reminded me of Shanghai Knights, except there was no Jackie Chan between them. It was all Owen Wilson, times two.

But the biggest moment of Jason as the hero was when he popped Franklin Mott’s melon to save Tara Thornton. I was SO glad Jason did that; Mott always made my skin crawl and I was ecstatic to have that particular story line end. Thank you Jason!

His Tarzan attack on Felton should be in there but… Jason is no Tarzan. He’s more George of the Jungle. And Ape ain’t around to supplement Jason’s critical thinking. Which probably explains a lot about the Crystal Norris situation…

And the women! Oh, the women of Jason Stackhouse! Dawn Green, Amy Burley, Sarah Newlin… plus, he could have Tara if he’d been smart enough to realize what was in front of him. Jason gives hope to all of us non-supe guys out there; normal human guys CAN attract beautiful women in Bon Temps.

All of which brings me to this; I don’t remember Jason in the books having ANY hero moments, much less several. Why is Jason so heroic on True Blood? Did Alan Ball or the other writers watch “Jason and the Argonauts” as his character was being written? After all, we took a deep dive into Greek mythology with the maenad and Dionysus. Resurrecting the myth of Jason into the show isn’t that far of a stretch.

Or, maybe they stole the whole idea from “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou” (retelling of Odysseus). Yeah, now that i think about it, that makes a lot more sense;

Rural setting? Check
Bumbling, backwoods hicks? Check
Ridicules the South? You betcha
Tragic heroes? A plenty

Oh well – here’s to the modern Greek revival, wrapped up in a vamp love story and a were-panther gang bang.

Want some gopher, Everett?

Favorite True Blood Female (via @FangbangerEst89)

My Favorite Female Character (besides the obvious)

Image

Arlene………….

She is a busy mom with now three (or four i can’t remember lol) kids. A baby that might be posessed or something. Also has been through the hoop and ringer with men. She to me is just an all around awesome fabulous woman who has been through the bush and knows the deal with life. To me in this series she is awesomely a role model and my hero. Hopefully she will not die in season 5.
